Scarce Alfa Romeo P2 Clockwork Racing Car | Coming Soon!
15/03/2023 | Glen Chapman
The French Toy Manufacturer, Compagnie Industrielle du Toy, began making Toy Car Replicas of the Alfa Romeo P2 in the 1930s. The original Grand Prix car was designed by Vittorio Jano and is considered one of the best Grand Prix cars of the 1920s… winning it’s first race in 1924, it went on to win multiple races for the next six years; with the P2, Alfa Romeo was able to win the first ever World Championship title.
This scarce 1930’s CIJ (France) Alfa Romeo P2 Clockwork Racing Car with front headlamps is a new & exciting consignment for us - it has a pressed steel body, finished in silver. Red racing numbers ‘2’, with clover leaf logo’s, silver/blue exhaust pipe, working clockwork motor, driving the rear wheels, type 3 issue large tread unbranded pneumatic tyres, red spoked wheels, knock off hubcaps, with drum brakes, steering wheel is loose. Rack and pinion steering, handbrake, leather bonnet straps, wire mesh grill, with racing number ‘2’ starter handle, fuel and radiator caps, crazed paint effect to seats. There is a CIJ manufactured sign in red to the base, some wear to model, owners name to base, 53cms long, missing key, but overall this model is in excellent condition. This is a very nice example of this iconic toy car and we’re excited to see it go to auction in our upcoming May 3rd & 4th Vintage & Collectible Toy auction where this lot is estimated to make between £6,000 - £8,000.
Keep an eye out on our social media pages for more details of this auction and other featured lots that will be going under the hammer in May 2023!
