Five Pounds Proof Sovereign ~ 2005 and Proof Double Sovereign ~ 2005
Estimated at £2,500-£3,000
The Sovereigns, seen below, were created specifically with the Queen's Golden Jubilee in mind, and commemorate the momentous occasion in gold. Designed by Timothy Noad, this modern take on St George and the dragon, seen on the reverse, was introduced by The Royal Mint in 2005.
Victoria, Depiction of Epping Forest, 1882, a copper medal by C. Weiner, for the Corporation of London
Estimated at £400-£600
Intricately detailed, this copper medal designed by Charles Weiner commemorates the opening of Epping Forest by Queen Victoria on May 6th, 1882. Hailing from the famous Belgian engraving family, Charles' work on this medal has been noted as a 'true masterpiece'.
Still mourning the loss of her husband in 1861, Victoria was accompanied by her son Arthur, Duke of Connaught and daughter Louise. She dedicated Epping to "the use and enjoyment of my people for all time." These exact words were engraved onto the medal and surround the depiction of the Queen, alongside a female figure representing the City of London, clutching a broken barrier.
